Private Intricacies

Even castles have rules about what is kept and what is shared. Here is what happens to the little you leave behind.

The Council of Very Important Men has deliberated extensively on the matter. Its findings follow.

Who looks after your information

The Ingle is written and tended by Dunja Radulov, in the Netherlands. If you have a question about your information, or want to exercise any of the rights below, write to hi@dunjaradulov.com.

Notes to the Scribe

Your letters are for the Scribe’s eyes only. Not even the Council of Very Important Men gets to read them.

When you write to the Scribe, the form collects your name, your email address, and your note. These are used only to read your message and, if it calls for one, to reply. You won’t be added to a mailing list.

The form is handled by Netlify, which stores your message and can forward it to the Scribe’s inbox. Messages are kept only for as long as reasonably needed to handle your correspondence, then deleted. You can also ask for yours to be deleted.

Counting visitors

We all know counting sheep is Silly Business. But sometimes it helps the Scribe to know how many visitors have found their way to the fire, and which faraway corners of the world they’ve wandered in from.

You see, even storytellers are curious creatures.

For this, The Ingle uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts visits, which pages are read, where visitors come from, and what kinds of devices they use. It does this without analytics cookies or tracking people across other websites.

The Scribe sees statistics, not a list of who came calling.

No cookies, no adverts

The Ingle doesn’t intentionally set cookies for advertising or visitor analytics, and there are no adverts. Fonts and illustrations are hosted on the site itself, rather than loaded from Google or other external font services.

No royal proclamations about things you ought to buy, either.

Subscribing and reading tales

The tales live on Substack. When you subscribe or read a tale there, Substack handles your information under its own privacy policy.

The same goes for Instagram if you follow the path there. These are separate services, with their own rules.

Where the castle stands

Even an imaginary castle needs somewhere to stand in the real world.

The Ingle is hosted by Netlify. To deliver pages and keep the castle gates secure, hosting services process certain technical details, such as IP addresses and browser information.

Netlify and Cloudflare may process information outside the European Economic Area, subject to applicable data protection safeguards.

You can read more in Netlify’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Your rights

Your information is yours.

You needn’t petition the King, consult the Queen, or seek permission from the Council.

Under applicable data protection law, you may have the right to see the information held about you, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to its use, or receive a copy of it.

Just write to hi@dunjaradulov.com.

If you’re unhappy with how your request is handled, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes to these intricacies

Tradition objects to changes on principle.

Nevertheless, this page may occasionally be updated.

The sheep has read it twice and found it reasonable.

But I digress. Back to our tales.
